Ching Nan Jing – Middle Chapter

青囊经 Ching Nan Jing

第二节中卷化机

经曰:
天有五星,地有五行,天分星宿,地列山川,
气行於地,形丽於天,因形察气,以立人纪。
紫微天极,太乙之御,君临四正,南面而治,
天市春宫,少微西掖,太微南垣,旁照四极。
四七为经,五德为纬,运干坤舆,垂光乾纪,
七政枢机,流通终始。
地德上载,天光下临,阴用阳朝,阳用阴应,
阴阳相见,福禄永贞,阴阳相乘,祸咎踵门。
天之所临,地之所感,形止气蓄,万物化生,
气感而应,鬼福及人。
是故天有象,地有形,上下相须,而成一体。
此之谓化机。

中卷- Middle Chapter

经曰:
天有五星,地有五行,
In heaven there are 5 stars, on earth there are 5 elements,
Notes:
The 5 stars of heaven.
Sui Xing岁星Ying Huo荧惑Zhen Xing镇星Tai Bai太白Chen Xing辰星
木为岁星,其方为东,其令为春,其徳为仁,
Wood as Sui Xing, located in the East, represents spring, the ethic is benevolence,
火为荧惑,其方为南,其令为夏,其徳为礼。
Fire as Ying Huo, located in the South, represents summer, the ethic is propriety,
土为镇星,其方为中央,其令为季夏,其德为信,
Earth as Zhen Xing, located in the center, represents the last month of the season, the ethics is fidelity/trust,
金为太白,其方为西,其令为秋,其德为义,
Metal as Tai Bai, located in the West, represents autumn, the ethic is righteousness,
水为辰星,其方为北,其令为冬,其德为智,
Water as Chen Xing, located in the North, represents winter, the ethic is wisdom.
On earth the 5 elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
天分星宿,地列山川,气行於地,形丽於天,因形察气,以立人纪。
Heaven is filled with stars, earth composed of mountains and plains,
Qi flows according to the land form, the land formation in accordance to the heaven’s Qi, due to form follows Qi, it is possible to observe landform to understand the heaven’s Qi, thus the beginning of earth study.
Notes:
28 Xiu 二十八宿located in the heaven. Earth is filled with mountains, rivers, oceans, plains, etc. Heaven Qi creates the landform, the land formation is due to the Qi from heaven. The link between Qi and form.
紫微天极,太乙之御,君临四正,南面而治,天市春宫,少微西掖,太极南垣,旁照四极。
Zi Wei紫微 at the extreme north, located along the four cardinal position, looking from the extreme north towards the south, Tian Shi天市in the east spring palace, Shao Wei少微 in the west , Tai Ji 太极 in the south, shining in all four directions.
Notes:
In ancient Chinese astrology, the sky is divided into 4 sectors: North, South, East and West.
四七为经,五德为纬,运斡坤舆,垂光乾纪,七政枢机,流通终始。
Four seven as the sacred texts, five ethics as the application, the luck of earth and the way of heaven, seven cardinal categories, circulate endlessly.
Notes:
28 Xiu 二十八宿 is formed from 4 sectors each with 7 representations.

The 28 Xiu and the 5 ethics form the sacred texts and with the endless transformation of day and night, create a never ending cycle.
地德上载,天光下临,阴用阳朝,阳用阴应,阴阳相见,福禄永贞,阴阳相乘,祸咎踵门。
The earth auspicious Qi rises upward, the light from heaven shines downward, Yin uses Yang to proceed, Yang uses Yin to respond, when Yin and Yang meets, good fortune lasts forever, when Yin and Yang multiplies on its own, disaster and misfortune arrives at the door.
Notes:
Heaven’s Qi is Yang and is formless; earth’s Qi is Yin and has form. The Yin Qi of earth is created by the Yang Qi from Heaven. The Yang Qi of heaven must be absorbed by the Yin Qi of earth. The collection and dispersion of Qi is as a result of the form. Thus when Yin Yang interacts it is an auspicious sign and when Yin Yang is alone it is an inauspicious sign.
天之所临,地之所感,形止气蓄,万物化生,气感而应,鬼福及人,是故天有象,地有形,上下相须,而成一体,此之谓化机。
Where heaven arrives, where the earth is affected, where the form is still the Qi is stored, the growth of all living things, Qi move and respond, the growth and death of living things, in heaven there is imagery, in earth there is form, above and below the image becomes one, creates a transformation.
Notes:
In Qi there is form, in form there is Qi. It is in the creation, transformation of the Qi and form which creates all living things on earth. It is also in the creation, transformation of the Qi and form where all living things died. Living and dying is created by the Qi from heaven and the form from earth.
