· Gold in the Sea
甲子乙丑何以取象为海中之金?盖气在包藏,有名无形,犹人之在母腹也。
Jia Zi, Yi Chou........................Gold in the Sea
Yin Yang Qi still hidden. Only hear of the name can’t see the shape yet. Like still in the womb of the mother.
《六十甲子纳音》剖折
以子为水,又为湖,又为水旺之地,
Zi as water, can also be considered a lake, or as the prosperous state of water,
兼金死于子、墓于丑,
and metal is dead qi at zi, and in grave at chou,
水旺而金死、墓,
water prosperous and metal is dead or in tomb,
故曰海中之金,又曰气在包藏,使极则沉潜。
this is known as metal in the sea, or the qi is being concealed, in the extreme and thus being submerged.
子,五行是水,是湖泊之水,是水势旺盛的地方,
Zi, is water in the five elements, is the water of the lake, and where water is at a prosperous state.
在五行中金死在子而墓在丑,
in the five elements, metal is dead at zi and in tomb at chou
水旺金死、墓,尤如大海中之金子故曰大海金。
when water is prospering, metal is dead or in tomb, like the metal in the sea, thus this is known as metal in the sea.
另一种说法:甲乙和子丑都是阴阳刚萌发,这样追朔到极点,就下沉潜藏仿佛象海中的金子一样。
Another method of saying: Jia Yi and Zi Chou are the beginning stages of yin and yang, thus if we trace back to the extreme point, it will sink and be concealed just like metal in the middle of the sea.
《三命通会》云:海中金者,宝藏龙宫,珠孕蛟宝,出现虽假于空冲,
From SMTH: Those with metal in the sea is like treasure hidden in the dragon palace, with hidden pearl and dragon treasure, to emerge even though it is fake in void or clash,
成器无借乎火力,故东方朔以蚌蛤名之,良有理也,
to be utilized there is no need to borrow fire, thus Dong Fang Su name this as a clam, which is reasonable.
妙选有珠藏渊海格以甲子见癸亥,是不用火,逢空有蚌珠照月格,以甲子见己未,是欲合化互贵。
with Jia Zi seeing Gui Hai is a structure of hidden pearl among the vast ocean, where there is no use for fire,
when meeting void, there is pearl reflecting the moon structure, which is when Jia Zi meets Ji Wei, is wanting to combine and transform thus mutually beneficial.
盖以海金无形,非空冲则不能出现,而乙丑金库,非旺火则不能陶铸故也。
The cover of ocean and metal is without form, without void or clash it is unable to appear, while Yi Chou metal tomb, unless it is strong fire, cannot be casted (metal).
如甲子见戊寅、庚午,是土生金,
If Jia Zi meeting Wu Yin, Geng Wu, is earth giving birth to metal
乙丑见丙寅丁卯是火制金。
又天干逢三奇,此等贵格,无有不贵。
Yi Chou meeting Bing Yin , Ding Mao is fire controlling metal.
Also is heavenly stem with San Qi, such is a noble structure, will always be noble.
《三命通会》甲子,
从革之金。其气散,得戊申土、癸巳水相之则吉。
戊申乃金临官之地,土者更旺于子,必能生成;
癸巳系金生于巳,水旺于子,纳音各有所归。
又为朝元禄,忌丁卯、丁酉、戊午之火。
阎东叟云:甲子金为进神,禀沉潜虚中之德,四时皆吉。
入贵格承旺气,则术业精微,主夺魁之荣。
《三命通会》乙丑,
自库之金。火不能克。盖退藏之金苟无克害冲破,未有不显荣者,独忌己丑、己未之火。
阎东叟云:“乙丑为正印,具大福德,秋冬富贵寿考,春夏吉中有凶。入格则建功享福,带煞类为凶会。”
《玉霄宝鉴》云:“甲子乙丑未成器,金见火则成,多见则吉。”

海中金者,宝藏龙宫,珠孕蛟宝,出现虽假于空冲,成器无借乎火力,故东方朔以蛤蚌名之,良有理也。
‘Metal in the sea’ is like treasure hidden in the dragon palace and can be compared to a pearl hidden within an oyster. For the metal to appear, it needs to rely on clash and void. For it to become a useful instrument, it need fire, thus it is for this reason that Dong Fang Su name this as a clam.
《妙选》有珠藏渊海格,以甲子见癸亥,是不用火;
逢空有蚌珠照月格,以甲子见己未,是欲合化互贵。
“Wondrous Selection” has the structure of pearl hidden among the vast ocean, which is when Jia Zi meets with Gui Hai (ocean water). Such a structure does not require fire.
In the “Clam illuminated by the moon” structure, it meets with void. This is when Jia Zi is together with Ji Wei (heavenly fire). There is desire to combine and transform, thus it is a noble structure.
盖以海金无形,非空冲则不能出现,而乙丑金库,非旺火则不能陶铸故也。
When covered by the ocean, metal is without form, unless there is void or clash then it will appear. Yi Chou as storage of metal, cannot be formed into instruments unless there is strong fire.
如甲子见戊寅、庚午,是土生金,乙丑见丙寅、丁卯,是火制金。
Like Jia Zi meeting Wu Yin (fortress earth), Geng Wu represent earth producing metal, Yi Chou meeting Bing Yin, Ding Mao (furnace fire) represent fire controlling metal.
又天干逢三奇,此等格局,无有不贵。
With proper San Qi QuiRen in the HS, in all cases is a noble chart.
Fire
旧说甲子乙丑俱喜见炉中火。
Old saying Jia Zi, Ji Chou loves to meet ‘furnace fire’ (Bing Yin, Ding Mao).
丙寅旺火,不喜木助。
Bing Yin (furnace fire) is prosperous fire, does not like assistance from wood.
丁卯败火,却宜木助。
Ding Mao (furnace fire) as defeated fire, need wood to help.
覆灯、山下、山头诸火,性微不能炼金,故宜木助。
‘Fire from the lamp’, ‘on the mountain slope’ and ‘on the mountain top’, is of mild nature and not able to forge metal, need to have the help of wood.
天上火不能克金,须假凡火,再得水济,无冲破为佳。
‘Heavenly fire’ cannot control metal, need to rely on normal fire, together with assistance from water, without clash/damage is considered good.
霹火就位相克,性主昏蒙,运如再犯,大凶。
‘Lightning fire’ in place to control, the person will be muddle-headed, if meeting in LP will be very inauspicious.
Wood
见木则无造化,以此金未能成器,不能制物故也。
Meeting wood will not be lucky, this metal can’t be forged into useful instruments and cannot be used to control other element.
若月日有火而时遇木,却以财论,则吉。
If fire is present in the month and day, also with wood in the time, this can be considered as wealth and is thus auspicious.
Water
井泉、涧下、大溪、天河等水,无火,俱不宜见。
‘Spring water’, ‘condense water’, ‘great stream’, ‘celestial river’, for these 4 water, without fire, extremely not suitable to meet.
In the absence of fire, it is not suitable to meet ‘Spring water’, ‘condensed water’, ‘great stream’, ‘Celestial River’.
海水亦不宜。
‘Ocean water’ also not suitable.
然以《妙选》论之,则为贵格。
However, according to “Wonderous selection”, this is considered a noble chart.
据理,甲子见癸亥,逢生趋乾,何不可之有?
Accordingly, Jia Zi together with Gui Hai (ocean water), is meeting growth stage towards Qian, why not?
Earth
路傍、屋壁、城头、大驿诸土,在日时柱中,天元支辰纳音俱无火制,主贱,中年夭。
‘Roadside earth’, ‘Earth on the house’, ‘City wall earth’, ‘Roadway earth’, in the day and time pillar, year pillar nayin without fire to control, DM wii be poor and die middleage.
余见亦未然,以庚午辛未,戊寅己卯二土造化有情故也。
When meeting the other earth nayin, the situation will be different. Geng Wu Xin Wei, Wu Yin Ji Mao, the luck will still be alright.
如甲子见庚午,坎离相济。
Like Jia Zi meet Geng Wu, Kan Li is assisting each other.
见辛未,官星带贵。
Meeting Xin Wei, officer star carrying Gui (fortune).
乙丑见庚午,官贵互换。
Yi Chou meeting Geng Wu as exchanging between officer and fortune.
甲子见戊寅,绝地逢生,见己卯,天干合化。
Jia Zi meet Wu Yin, it is being born in repose stage. When meeting Ji Mao, heavenly stem is combined and transformed.
乙丑见戊寅,亦绝地逢生,见己卯则归禄带财。
Yi Chou meet Wu Yin, is also getting birth at repose stage, when meeting Ji Mao return to prospect star and bringing wealth.
余土又当仍分年上禄马、贵人方准。
Other earth when it is year prospect, horse or nobleman then it is allowed.
沙土埋金,诚不宜见,有火亦不吉。
Earth from the sand/grave causes metal to be buried, it is thus not suitable to meet, with fire also considered inauspicious.
Metal
柱中逢金,砂镴原未成器,海中又未成器,彼此无益,故无火不宜。
Meeting metal in the pillar, ‘metal found in sand’, ‘white wax gold’ which has not been forged, ‘gold in the sea’ also not yet forged, not beneficial for both, not suitable without fire.
剑、钗已成器,金相见有助。
‘Sword edge’, ornament has already been forged, meeting metal would provide assistance.
Special considerations.
《妙选》谓之脱体化神,主贵。箔金亦好。
According to “Wondrous Selections”, transformation god leaving the body, implies auspiciousness.
‘Gold foil’ will also be good.
如甲子见甲子,乙丑见乙丑,同类相资,
Like Jia Zi meeting Jia Zi, Yi Chou meeting Yi Chou, both the same species and mutually supporting.
柱中喜见一寅,见戊寅谓之昆山片玉,
In the pillar prefers to meet one Yin, meeting Wu Yin as the jade from the Kun mountain is considered precious.
如甲子见乙丑,谓之干支连珠,非得火炼不可。
Jia Zi meet Yi Chou, like HS and EB joined as a string of pearl; must have fire to forge.
即子平金神格之义也。
This is the metal spirit structure of zi ping.
《李虚中命书》
甲子天官藏,是子旺母衰之金,溺于水下而韬光须假火革,有旺盛之气,方可以扬名显用。
(命入贵格,明暗取官。)
Must have Jia and Geng to be considered noble.
乙丑禄官承,乃库墓守财之金,不嫌鬼旺之方,喜见禄财之地,水土砥砺,忽然有气,亦可以为器成材。
(平和贵格,不须禄到。)
Best to have lots of Wu and Ji earth. Without also ok.
