Strength of HS element.

To determine the strength of HS element.

There are various considerations.

The first is based on the season. 衰旺
Based on the month/season, there are 5 different strength categories:
Prosperous
Supportive
Rest
In Prison
Death

The second is based on the 12 Qi phase.
Chang Sheng 12 Qi phase - 十二運.
长生chang sheng 沐浴mu yu 冠带guan dai 临官lin guān
帝旺di wang Shuāi Bing Si Mu Jue Tai Yang
This is based on the pillar itself.
So for Ren Zi it is considered帝旺di wang.

The third is based on the other EB – obtaining the ground. 得地
长生禄旺,根之重者也;
墓库余气,奶之轻者也。
Obtaining Chang Sheng, Lu or Prosperous represents heavy roots.
Tomb and residue Qi represent represents weak link.
Strength of Tomb and residue Qi needs to consider punishment and clash.
不以为通根峰库,甚至求刑冲以开之,
竟不思刑冲伤吾本根之气


The fourth is obtaining growth and help. – 得生, 得助
Obtaining the help of other HS – similar and resource elements, but this is considered the weakest contribution.
天干得一比肩,不如地支得一余气墓库
得二比肩,不如支中得一长生禄旺
Obtaining one Bi Jian in the HS is not as strong as obtaining a tomb/residue qi.
Obtaining 2 Bi Jian is not as strong as obtaining a Chang Sheng Lu Prosperous.

The fifth is the consideration of the DHHS based on the month.
如寅月生人,立春后七日前,皆值戊土用事;
八日后十四日前者,丙火用事
十五日后,甲木用事。
知此则可以取格,可以取用矣。
For Yin month the first 7 days, Wu earth is used,
8 to 14 days , Bing fire is used,
After 15 days, Jia wood is used.
This is also used to obtained the chart category and also on the usefulness of the HHS.

The sixth is based on the Hour Pillar DHHS.
子时生人,前三刻,三分壬水用事;后四亥,七分癸水用事
The minutes can be used for differentiating people born within the same hour.

Example 1
So a DM can be born in season, Prosperous
Jia born in Mao month.
In a 沐浴mu yu state. Day pillar Jia Zi.
With support fromLu as roots in one of the EB.
Born in the year Yin.
With further support from Tomb. Born in Wei hour.
Without support from Bi Jian or Resource in the HS.
DHHS Gui further supporting the wood.
Very strong wood.

日干旺衰:

日干旺包括四个方面: 得令, 得地, 得生, 得助.
得令: 日干旺于月支, 处长生, 沐浴, 冠带, 临官, 帝旺之地为得令.
得地: 日干在其余各支中得长生(须阳日干), 禄刃(支中藏干的本气为比,为劫), 或逢墓库(阳日干逢墓库为有根, 阴日干无气 , 故无根).
得生: 日干得四柱干支中的正偏印之生为得生.
得助: 日干与四柱其它天干同类为逢比肩劫财帮身, 此为得助.

四、论五行旺衰

以全年论之,
春季(寅、卯、辰月)木旺、火相、水休、金囚、土死;
夏季(巳、午、未月)火旺、土相、木休、水囚、金死;
秋季(申、酉、戌月)金旺、水相、土休、火囚、木死;
冬季(亥、子、丑月)水旺、木相、金休、土囚、火死。
土旺于四季(辰、戌、丑、未月)最后18天。

Based on the month/season, there are 5 different strength categories:

九、论十天干生旺死绝

五行的旺、相、休、囚、死与五行的十二生旺死绝有着本质上的区别。
旺、相、休、囚、死是以月令为基准来衡量每种五行的旺衰程度的一种标准。而十二状态(长生、沐浴、冠带……)是确认某种五行的气数状态的一种标志。

假如一个人的日柱为壬子日,从十二气数状态来查,壬到子为帝旺。
壬子日如果生在冬季,则为中之帝旺;
壬子日如果生在秋季,则为中之帝旺:
壬子日若生于春季,则为中之帝旺;
壬子日如果生于夏季,则为中之帝旺;
壬子日若生在四季月(辰、戌、丑、未),则为中之帝旺。

Chang Sheng 12 Qi phase - 十二運.

帝旺di wang Shuāi Bing Si Mu Jue Tai Yang

十二運含胎、養、長生、沐浴、冠帶、建祿、帝旺、衰、病、死、墓、絕。

十五、月令

月令乃提纲之府,譬之宅也,人元为用事之神,宅之定向也,不可以不卜。

原注:令星乃三命之至要,气象得令者吉,喜神得令者吉,令其可忽乎?
月令如人之家宅,支中之三元,定宅中之向道,不可以不卜。
如寅月生人,立春后七日前,皆值戊土用事;
八日后十四日前者,丙火用事
十五日后,甲木用事。
知此则可以取格,可以取用矣。

十六、生时

生时乃归宿之地,譬之墓也,人元为用事之神,墓之定方也,不可以不辨。

原注:子时生人,前三刻,三分壬水用事;后四亥,七分癸水用事。
评其与寅月生人,戊土用事何如,丙火用事何如,甲未用事何如,局所用之神,与壬水用事者何如,癸水 用事者何如,穷其浅深如坟墓之定方道,斯可以断人之祸福。至同年同月日而百人各一应者,当究其时之先后,又论山川之异,世德之殊,十有九验,其有一验者, 不过此则有官,彼则子多,此则多财,彼则妻美,为人异耳。夫山川之异不惟东西南北,迥乎不同者,宜辨之,即一邑一家,而风声气习,不能一律也。世德之殊, 不惟富贵贫贱,绝乎不侔得者宜辨之,即同门共户,而善恶邪正,不能尽齐也。学者察此,可以知其与替矣。

十七、衰旺

能知衰旺之真机,其于三命之奥,思过半矣。

原注:
旺则宜泄宜伤,衰则喜帮喜助,子平之理也。
然旺中有衰者存,不可损也;
衰右有旺者存,不可益也。
旺之可损,以损在其中矣;衰之极者不可所当损者而损之,反凶;
实所当益者而益之,反害,此真机,皆能知之,又何难于详察三微奥乎?
任氏曰;
得时俱为旺论,失令便作衰看,虽是至理,亦死法也。
夫五行之气,流行于四时,虽日干各有专令,而其实专令之中,亦有并存者在,如春木司令,甲乙虽旺,而此时休囚之戊巳,亦未尝绝于天地也;
冬水司令,壬天虽旺,百此时休囚之丙丁,变未尝绝于天地也。
物时当退避,不敢争先,而春实春土何尝不生万物,冬日何尝不照万国乎?
况八字虽以月令迷重,而旺相休囚,年日时中,亦有损益之权,故生月即不值令,亦能值年值日值时,岂可执一而论?
有如春木虽强,金太重而木亦危;
干庚辛而支申酉,无火制而不富,
逢土生而必夭,是得时不旺也。
秋木虽弱,木根深而木亦强,干甲乙而支寅卯,遇官透而能受,逢水生而太过,是失时不弱也。
是故日干不论月令休囚,只要四柱有根,便能受财官食神而当伤官七杀。
长生禄旺,根之重者也;
墓库余气,奶之轻者也。
天干得一比肩,不如地支得一余气墓库。
墓者,如甲乙逢未,丙丁逢戌,庚辛逢丑,壬癸辰之类是也。
余气者,如丙丁逢未,甲乙逢辰,庚辛逢戌,壬癸逢丑之类是也,
得二比肩,不如支中得一长生禄旺,如甲乙逢亥寅卯之类是也。
比肩如朋友之相扶通根如家室之可托
干多不如根挭,理固然也。
今人不知此理,见是春土夏水秋木冬火,
不问有根无根,便谓之弱:
见是春木夏火秋金冬水,不究克重克轻,便谓这旺,
更有任癸逢辰,丙丁逢戌,甲乙逢未,庚辛逢丑之类,
不以为通根峰库,甚至求刑冲以开之,
竟不思刑冲伤吾本根之气
此种谬论,必宜一切扫除也。
然此皆论衰旺之正面,易者也,
更有颠倒之理存焉,其理有十:
木太旺者而似金,喜火之炼也;
木旺极者而似火,喜水之克也。
火太旺者而似水,喜土之止也;
火旺极者而似土,喜木之克也。
土太旺者而似木,喜金之克也;
土旺极者而似水,喜火之练也。
金太旺者而似火,喜水之济也;
金旺极者而似水,喜土之止也。
水太旺者而似土,喜木之制也;
水旺极者而似木,喜金之克也。
木太衰者而似水也,宜金以生之;
木衰极者而似土也,宜火以生之。
火太衰者而似木也,宜水以生之;
火衰极者而似金也,宜土以生之。
土太衰者而似火也,宜木以生之;
土衰极者而似水也,宜金以生之。
金太衰者而似土,宜火以生之;
金衰极者而似木也,宜水以生之。
水太衰者而似金也,宜土以生之;
水衰极者而似火也,宜木以生之。
此五行颠倒之真机,学者宜细详玄玄之妙。

忌神
Ji Shen – Unfavorable God.
If Yong Shen is the god that tries to manage the chart to ensure everything runs smoothly, then Ji Shen is the God that destroys the smooth running of the chart.

曲炜     
技巧三:用神被克被合必有灾
 Yong Shen being clashed or combined denotes potential disaster.   

用神是命局得以平衡的关键,用神若是逢岁运被合住或被克伤,必然发挥不了用神的作用,使命局失衡,日主应灾无疑!
When the Yong Shen is clashed or combined during LP or AP, it is unable to regulate and manage the chart.
As a result, it denotes potential disaster due to the chart losing its balance.

技巧四:看合化
Checking for combination and transformation.   
Similarly according to Qu Wei, if a combination/transformation in a chart is disturbed, (either formed or disturbed) the chart will lose its balance.
命主应有重大变化,至于变好变坏,看(会)合化后之五行的喜忌,喜则吉,忌则凶。
 The Dm will encounter big changes, good or bad depends on the favorable/unfavorable elements formed due to the combination/transformation.

喜神
Xi Shen – the helpful god.
The God that helps the Yong Shen.
The God that controls the Ji Shen.

  2. The notes which are not translated are used to show where in the classics are similar references and not something made up by myself.
    It is also very tedious and time consuming to do.

    First, would you mind telling me what Chang Sheng Lu means? And second, is this principle applicable for Bi Jian and supporting elements in the HS only? Or does it apply to non-supportive elements in the HS as well? (ie Pian Cai more destructive in the residue and tomb than HS?)
