Ji Earth


Ji Earth 己土 

QTBJ 窮通寶鑑 Summary

己土喜用提要

Yin Month     
寅月
取丙解寒,忌见壬水,如水多,须以土为佐。
土多用甲,甲多用庚。
Use Bing fire to warm the coldness, inauspicious to meet Ren water, if water prosperous, must use earth to assist.
Earth prosperous use Jia wood, Jia wood prosperous use Geng metal.

Mao Month   
卯月
用甲忌与己土合化,次用癸水润之。
Use Jia wood but avoid Jia Ji combining and transforming to earth, next use Gui water to moisten.

Chen Month  
辰月
先丙后癸,土暖而,随用甲疏。
First Bing fire next use Gui water, earth warm yet nourish, use Jia wood to loosen the earth.

Si Month      
巳月
调候不能无癸,土不能无丙。
Tuning the qi/temperature can’t be done without Gui water, moist earth must have Bing fire.

Wu Month     
午月
调候不能无癸,土润不能无丙
Tuning the qi/temperature can’t be done without Gui water, moist earth must have Bing fire.

Wei Month    
未月
调候不能无癸,土润不能无丙
Tuning the qi/temperature can’t be done without Gui water, moist earth must have Bing fire.

Shen Month   
申月
丙火温土,癸水润土
七月庚金司令,丙能制金,癸能泄金。
Bing fire warm the earth, Gui water to nourish the earth.
7th month Geng metal in command, Bing fire can control the metal, Gui can diminish the metal.

You Month    
酉月
取辛辅癸
Get Xin metal to assist the Gui.

Xu Month     
戌月
九月土盛,宜甲木疏之,次用丙癸。
The 9th month (Xu month) when earth flourish, appropriate use of Jia wood to loosen/thin the earth, next use Bing fire and Gui water.

Hai Month     
亥月
三冬己土,非丙暖不生。
初冬壬旺,取戊土制之,土多,取甲木疏之。
Three winter (Hai, Zi, Chou) Ji earth, without Bing there is no warmth. Early winter Ren prosperous, use Wu earth to control it, earth prosperous, use Jia wood to loosen it.

Zi Month       
子月
三冬己土,非丙暖不生。
壬水太旺,取戊土制之,土多,取甲木疏之。
Three winter month (Hai, Zi, Chou) Ji earth, without Bing there is no warmth. Ren water too prosperous, get Wu earth to control it, earth prosperous, use Jia wood to loosen it.

Chou Month   
丑月
三冬己土,非丙暖不生。

己土卑湿,中正蓄藏;
Ji earth the base is moist, centrally stored and hidden,
不愁木盛,不畏水狂;
Not worried about prosperous wood, not scared of abundance water,
火少火晦,金多金乐;
Fire small fire dim, metal many metal happy,
若要物旺,宜助宜帮。
If want the things to be prosperous, must obtained help and assistant.

戊己同为中正之士,
Wu and Ji earth both belong to the earth in the center,
而戊土固重,己土蓄藏,
Wu earth represents hard and heavy, Ji earth represent stored and hidden,
戊土高亢,己土卑湿,此其不同之点也。
Wu earth high and proud, Ji earth low and wet, that’s the difference.
卑湿之土,能培木之根,止水广泛。
Low and wet earth, can nourish the roots of the wood, control excessive water.
见甲则合而有情,故不愁木盛;见水则纳而能蓄。
Meeting Jia and combining creating a relationship, that being the reason for not worry about prosperous wood, meeting water has the ability to act as a store,
此为己土无为之妙用。
Thats the beauty of Ji earth letting things plot their own course,
但欲滋生万牧,则宜丙火去其卑湿之气,戊土助其生长之力,方足以充盛长旺也。
Have the desire to birth all living things, depending on Bing fire to diminish the moisture, Wu earth to assist for growth, sufficient to make it strong and prosperous.

Di Tian Sui

己土卑湿,中正蓄藏。
不愁木盛,不畏水狂。
火少火晦,金多金光。
若要物旺,宜助宜帮。

原注:
己土卑薄软湿,乃戊土枝叶之地,亦主中正而能蓄藏万物。
The base of Ji earth is mild and moist; the place where Wu earth is filled with leaves and branches, the key ability is to grow all living things.
柔土能生木,非木所能克,故不愁木盛;
Gentle earth can grow wood, wood cannot totally control ji earth, as a result not worried about prosperous wood;
土深而能纳水,非水所能荡,故不畏水狂。
When earth is deep it can store water, water cannot sweep earth away easily, as a result not worried about prosperous water.
无根之火,不能生湿土,故火少而火反晦;
Fire without root, not able to grow moist earth, as a result weak fire will be diminished;
湿土能润金气,故金多而金光彩,反清莹可观。
Moist earth can smooth metal Qi, as a result when metal is prosperous and shinny, will become impressive.
此其无为而有为之妙用。
As such it can be useful when not useful.
若要万物充盛长旺,惟土势深固,又得火气暖和方可。
For prosperous growth of all living things, the earth must be strong and deep, especially with the help of fire to create warmth.
