子平真诠评注 - Ziping Zhenquan Pingzhu (ZPZQPZ) or Annotations of Commentary on Ziping:

乙木虽柔，刲羊解牛；

怀丁抱丙，跨凤乘猴；

虚湿之地，骑马亦忧；

藤萝系甲，可春可秋。

乙木虽柔，刲羊解牛；

Athough Yi wood is tender and yielding, cut open the Goat which is Wei (Wei being the tomb of wood with Yi wood, Ding fire and Ji earth), split open the Ox which is Chou (Chou being moist earth with Gui water, Xin metal and Ji earth). Both have the ingredient for a healthy Yi wood; Gui water, Yi wood and Ji earth which is moist.
怀丁抱丙，跨凤乘猴；

With Ding and Bing fire in the HS, Shen You in the EB.

Yi wood with Bing or Ding fire which not only provide warmth but also a key ingredient for growth is important to the health of the Yi wood.

Yi wood with Shen and You is necessary when the wood is prosperous and needs to be controlled (trim) for it to be appreciated and to be noble.
虚湿之地，骑马亦忧；

Wet and moist land, riding horse (with Wu in the EB) to obtain warm.

With prosperous water it is very difficult for the Yi wood to grow properly.

Even with Wu fire in the EB to provide warmth, it is still not an ideal healthy environment for the Yi wood.

藤萝系甲，可春可秋。

For Yi wood with a support from Jia wood in the HS, can survive in Spring and Autumn.

羊，未也。牛，丑也。

Goat, wei. Ox, Chou.

乙木虽柔，而生于丑未月，未为木库，丑为湿土，可培乙木之根，乙木根固，则制柔土亦有余也。

Although Yi wood is tender and yielding, born in the month of Chou and Wei, Wei being the tomb of wood, Chou being moist earth which can nurture the root of Yi wood, with strong roots, can control soft earth.

凤，酉也；猴，申也。

Phonex, You. Monkey, Shen.

生于申酉月，只要干有丙丁，不畏金旺（见格局高低篇阎陆商张诸造，可为例证）。

Born in the month of Shen and You, with Bing and Ding protrude in the HS, not worry about the prosperous metal.

马，午也。

Horse, Wu.

生于亥子月，水旺木浮，虽支有午，亦难发生。

Born in Hai, Zi month, water prosperous wood will float, even with Wu in the EB, it is difficult for wood to grow properly.

若天干有甲，地支有寅，名为藤萝系甲，可春可秋，言四季皆可，不畏砍伐也。

With Jia in the HS and Yin in the EB, it is called “vines and rattan to connect with Jia” 藤萝系甲, it is able to survive in spring or in Autimn, meaning in all four seasons, not worried about being chopped.

Yi Wood Summary -窮通寶鑑QTBJ

乙木喜用提要

寅月 取丙火解寒，略取癸水为滋润，不宜困丙。

Yin Month

Use Bing fire to tune the coldness, then use Gui water to nourish the moisture, do not distress the Bing fire.

卯月 以癸滋木，用丙泄秀，不宜见金。
Mao Month

Use Gui to nourish the wood, use Bing to make it elegant, not suitable to meet metal.

辰月 若支成水局，取戊为佐。
Chen Month

If chart becomes water frame, use wu earth to assist.

巳月 月令丙火得禄，专用癸水，调候为急。
Si Month

Bing fire being the month commader is prosperous, concentrate on using Gui water, tune it with urgency.

午月 上半月专用癸水，下半月丙癸并用。
Wu Month

First half month use Gui water, second half month use both Gui and Bing.

未月 润土滋木，喜用癸水，柱多金水，先用丙火。

夏月壬癸，切忌戊己杂乱。
Wei Month

Moist earth nourish wood, good to use Gui water, with many metal water in the chart, use Bing fire first, being the summer month Ren or Gui water is uasble, avoid Wu Ji earth create hurt and confusion.

申月 月垣庚金司令，取丙火制之，或癸水化之。

不论用丙用癸，皆己土为佐。
Shen month

Geng metal in command for the month, use Bing fire to control the metal, can also use Gui water to reduce the metal, if Bing not available then use Gui, in all cases Ji earth can assist.

酉月 上半月癸先丙后，下半月用丙先癸后，无癸用壬。
You Month

First half of the month Gui first Bing second, second half of the month Bing first Gui second, no Gui use Ren water.

戌月 以金发水之源。见甲，名藤萝系甲。
Xu Month

To use metal as the source of water.

Meet Jia wood, name vines/rattan connect Jia wood. (Special relationship where the Yi wood meets support by the Jia wood.)

亥月 乙木向阳，专用丙火，水多以戊为佐。
Hai Month

Yi wood moving towards the sun(warm), good to use Bing fire, water prosperous use Wu earth to assist.

子月 寒木向阳，专用丙火，忌见癸水。
Zi Month

Cold wood moving towards the sun(warm), focus on using Bing fire, inauspicious to meet Gui water.

(Moving towards the sun means in a cold weather, the wood is always searching for warmth and facing the sunlight.)

丑月 寒谷回春，专用丙火。

Chou Month

Season returning to spring, good to use Bing fire.

(It is still cold even though it is getting towards spring)

Bing Fire 丙 火

丙火猛烈，欺霜侮雪；

The fiery strength of the Bing fire (like the brilliance of the sun) , bully the forst and insult the snow,
能煅庚金，从辛反怯；

Able to forge Geng metal, however meeting metal becomes timid,

土众生慈，水猖显节；

Becomes compassionate with earth, with abundant water, becomes ferocious and will not yield (surrender).
虎马犬乡，甲来成灭。

In the village of Tiger (Yin) and Horse (Wu), Jia becomes exterminated/wiped out.

(Comment: Bing fire with fire formation such as Yin Wu Xu or Si Wu Wei in the EB. The fiery fire will exterminate any Jia wood in the chart.

五阳皆阳丙为最。

For the five Yang, Bing fire is the most Yang.

丙者，太阳之精，纯阳之性，

Bing fire, the essence of the sun, pure yang character, 欺霜侮雪，不畏水克也。

Bully the cold and insult the snow, not afraid of control from water.

庚金虽顽，力能煅之；

Although Geng metal is stubborn, Bing has the power to forge the metal;

辛金虽柔，合而反弱。

Although Xin metal is soft, due to combination will weaken the fire Qi.

见壬水，则阳遇阳而成对峙之势；

Meeting Ren water, yang meeting yang, represent confrontational situation.

见癸水，则如霜雪之见日，故不畏水克，而愈见其刚强之性。

Meeting Gui water, like frost/snaow during the day, not being afraid of water, will actually express its strength.

见土则火烈土燥，生机尽灭。

Meeting earth when fire is strong will dry the earth, resulting in extinguishing/exhausting the vitality of the life force.

土能晦火，见己土犹可，而见戊土尤忌。

Earth can diminish the fire, meeting Ji earth is still acceptable, but meeting Wu earth is very inauspicious.

生慈者，失其威猛之性也。

Becomes compassionate when producing earth, losing its fierce/powerful character.

显节者，显其阳刚之节也。

Becomes ferocious and will not yield/surrender, expressing its masculine feature . (When it encounter abundant water- head on confrontation)

虎马犬乡者，寅午戌也。

Tiger and horse village, meaning Yin Wu Xu.

支全寅午戌，而又透甲，火旺而无节，不戢自焚也。

EB with Yin Wu Xu, with Jia protruding, prosperous fire with no control, the Jia wood can be exterminated.

Bing Fire Summary -窮通寶鑑 QTBJ

丙火喜用提要

寅月

壬水为用，庚金发水之源为佐。

Yin month. Ren water is usable. Geng metal as the source of Gui water to assist.

卯月

专用壬水，水多用戊制之，身弱用印化之。

Mao month.

Concentrate on Ren water, use Wu earth to control if there is too much water, for weak DM use resource to transform.

辰月

专用壬水，土重以甲为佐。

Chen month.

Concentrate on using Ren water. With heavy earth, use Jia wood to assist.

巳月

以庚为佐，忌戊制壬。

Si month.

Use Geng metal to assist, inauspicious to have Wu earth to control Ren water.

午月

壬庚以通根申宫为妙。

Wu month.

With Ren water and Geng metal which is rooted in Shen EB is wonderful.

未月

以庚为佐。

Wei month.

Use Geng metal to assist.

申月

壬水通根申宫，壬多必取戊制。

Shen month.

Ren water which is rooted in Shen, with prosperous Ren must have Wu earth to control.

酉月

四柱多丙，一壬高透为奇。无壬为癸。

You month.

With many Bin gin the four pillars, it is auspicious to have one Ren which protrude in the HS. Without Ren use Gui water instead.

戌月

忌土晦光，先取甲疏土，次用壬水。

Xu month.

Inauspicious for the earth to diminish the fire, first obtain Jia wood to loosen/diminish the earth, next use Ren water. (to also diminish/control the earth)

亥月 月垣壬水秉令，水旺用甲木化之。身杀两旺，用戊制之。火旺用壬，木旺宜庚。

Hai month.

Ren water being the month commander, due to prosperous water, use Jia to assist. For strong DM with strong 7K, use Wu earth to control. When fire is prosperous use Ren to control. When wood is prosperous use Geng to control.

子月 气近二阳，丙火弱中复强，故用壬水，取戊制之，无戊用己。

Zi month.

Qi is close to 2 Yang, Bing fire is weak becoming strong, as a result use Ren water, next obtain Wu earth to control, without Wu earth use Ji earth.

丑月

喜壬为用，土多不可少甲。

Chou month.

Auspicious to use Ren water, with prosperous earth, must have Jia wood to control.
